The lie is that all food is safe but it is not! READ YOUR LABELS
There is an obesity epidemic in America with a horrific prevalence of disease in our younger generation never seen before. The reason is that most of the food we eat is poisoning us.
When we walk into the supermarket we naturally assume that the food available on the shelves has been professionally vetted and deemed healthy and safe to eat. After all there are government agencies assigned to examine and evaluate all food available for human consumption.
It is hower a lie that they are protecting us as most prepackaged and fast food is loaded with highly inflammatory ingredients like refined oils and preservatives, coloured dyes and unnatural flavours. It is there fore essential to assume the reponsability of reading labels to ascertain whether foods are healthy or not.
Here are some rules that I follow when determining if a food is healthy:
If there are more than 5 ingredients I avoid it and assume that most are sugar salt preservatives and colourings.
Avoid hidden sugars with fancy names like corn syrup, fructose, dextrose agave and fruit concentrates. They often sound healthy but are not.
Avoid all trans fats hidden by words like “partially hydrogenated”, typically in seed oils like safflower, soybean, corn, sunflower, cottonseed, canola and even peanut and grapeseed. Remember they can cause inflammation and heart disease. Good oils include olive, coconut, avocado and sesame.
Beware of preservatives and food colourings like sodium benzoate, sodium nitrate sorbic acid, sulphur dioxide, BHA, carrageenan, and Yellow #5, Red #40, Blue #1 ETC.TOTAL POISON!
Ideally stick to the outside rim of the grocery store and avoid the inner aisles.
