Make an the effort to workout even in the heat, especially from home.
This last summer, all over the world were displayed brutally hot temperatures. In the US over 78 million people were under dangerous heat alerts, costing us 1 billion dollars in additional health care.
Many people couldn’t get to the gym nor enjoy their normal outdoor activities and therefore failed to maintain their regular fitness levels. Apart from extreme heat waves there are many reasons why you might want to consider working out at home during the summer despite the lethargy you feel during the heat.
Convenience
One of the biggest advantages of working out at home is convenience. I can work out anytime I want; early in the morning before the temperature gets too hot or after the sun goes down, without having to commute to a gym. This saves me a significant amount of time, especially since my gym isn't close to my home and it I can get my workout finished before the day begins thereby having more time to play.
Privacy
For some people, working out in front of others can be a source of discomfort or self-consciousness. At home, you can work out in privacy, which might help you feel more relaxed and focused on your exercise.
Cost Savings
I remember I used to pay over $200 a month for my gym membership and additional reformer or other fitness classes cost more and were expensive. By owning my own reformer and working out at home, I save a lot of money, time and effort.
Weather Conditions
In the summer, it can sometimes be too hot or humid to exercise outside comfortably. Many of you complain about this, expressing the frustration that the heat makes you feel lethargic and less inclined to work out. I find that if I get on my reformer first thing in the day that not only does my body feel stronger, longer and leaner I find I have far more energy. Exercising at home allows me to totally control my environment and stay cool, which it more enjoyable and safer.
Safety and Hygiene
After all the worry during the pandemic about contamination I feel it is safer to work out at home where I can control the cleanliness and sanitation of my equipment. I typically wipe all the reformer surfaces with a spray that has water, a little alcohol, lavender and eucalyptus oil. In contrast I find gyms can sometimes be breeding grounds for bacteria, especially during peak hours when many people are using the same equipment and they only provide harsh chemical cleaners to wipe down the equipment after use
Family Involvement
The thing I love the most about having my reformer at homer is that I can easily involve my family, which is a great way to spend time together and sets a good example for my children in terms of prioritizing physical fitness.
Remember, the most important thing is to choose a form of exercise that you enjoy and can stick with consistently. Whether that's at home, in a gym, or outdoors, any form of regular physical activity can contribute to better health and well-being.
