How to jump correctly on your Aeropilates rebounder
In 4 clinical studies we proved that the Aeropilates rebounder is more effective as a cardio workout for heart health and weight loss than running on a treadmill or working out on an elliptical. You can burn 1.5-2 times the calories in the same time with less effort and all while lying down, fully supported and with no impact on your joints.
More resistance makes you jump faster, thus increasing your heart rate and burning more calories but with light resistance you can get a truly profound core workout since there is more time spent holding your legs in the air. It is the lower abdominals that are engaged.
The emphasis when jumping is not on pushing out but on landing with soft knees that bend the very moment your feet touch the surface, complying with more bend as you push against the mesh. Your reformer should not move at all and if it does you need to engage more core abdominal muscles and bend the knees even deeper.
Make sure you have your headrest set at the high position or use the Head and Neck support pillow to align your neck perfectly so as to be able to see the whole room as you jump. Some people occasionally feel motion sickness when jumping, if their head is flat and the ceiling is blank.
There are many ways to change the nature of the workout other than resistance;
They include altering the foot position as you land from parallel to V-position, hopping from one foot to the other, 2-foot jumping, kicks up and out, lowering the feet into the well as you jump and you can use small hand weights to incorporate the upper body.
Lastly try to keep your pelvis still. Do not let it tip, tilt or rock. Aim for neutral spine both in the neck and lower back and when you first begin, one foot jumping alternating legs is the best until your abdominals strengthen.
