Unlock your hips
Your hips are the center of your body’s movement forming a bridge that connects the upper and lower musculature. They also house the most important muscle in your body: the psoas.
This mighty strong muscle originates in the lower spine, passes through each side of the pelvis to attach to the top of the femur. When your psoas is strong and flexible it is responsible for stabilizing your hips while you bend, turn and lift your legs.
Sitting too much is tragic and causes the psoas to tighten and shorten. Quickly many other often seemingly unresolvable problems appear like sciatic pain, Piriformis syndrome, lack of energy, build up of interstitial fat, lack of libido and inadequate sexual performance.
If you are noticing any of the following chronic symptoms you would be wise to explore the state of your psoas muscles.
Nagging joint pains in your legs, lower back or hips
Walking with discomfort
Hips locking up
Bad posture
Trouble sleeping
Sluggishness in day to day life
High Anxiety
Digestive problems
Compromised Immune System
Circulatory issues
Loss of sexual performance
Lack of Explosiveness in the gym or sports
Put simply, this muscle is the core of all healthy movement so keeping it strong and supple is key. On your Aeropilates reformer I suggest the daily practice of Eve’s Lunge with a side bend which is a dynamic stretch that gets deeply into the hips and elongates the psoas.
